Splatoon Philippines Mascot Character Design - Katipunera Inkling "Tina"

A character I made for the Splatoon Philippines mascot contest. Her design is based on the Katipuneros, members of a patriotic Filipino organization "Katipunan" who fought against Spanish colonization.

Notes:

Her name is "Tina", which is the Filipino word for "dye".

Her weapon is a combination of a quil and the bolo knife. The officers of Katipunan were given a bolo knife as a weapon, and this served as the inspiration for the concept. The quill is also a reference to the Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal, who was famously preferredwriting novels as a way to fight against colonizers.

Her headgear is the "Salakot", a general term for a range of related traditional headgear used by virtually all ethnic groups of the Philippines. The salakot is sometimes made from tortoiseshell - a water-based animal. I thought it would be fitting for Tina as a character in Splatoon, a game about sea creatures.

Her weapon and headgear have a quill pen motif, since Splatoon is a game about spreading ink and making your mark.
